


# Collaborative Robots for Real Manufacturing Work
A collaborative robot earns its place on your floor when the job changes often, the volumes are moderate, and the space is tight. Accufacture designs, integrates, and supports cobot cells for welding, palletizing, machine tending, assembly, and finishing — and will tell you when a conventional industrial robot is the better answer.
## When a cobot is the right tool
The honest version: cobots are slower and carry less than industrial robots. What they offer instead is speed of deployment. A cobot can often be programmed by the person who does the job today, by physically guiding the arm through the motion rather than writing code. It can frequently run without a full safety cage, which means it fits in a footprint where a fenced cell would not. And it can be moved to a different task next week.
That trade is worth making when:
• You run high-mix, low-volume work and changeover happens constantly
• Floor space is tight and there is no room for guarding
• The task is ergonomically punishing — repetitive lifting, awkward reach, vibration
• You cannot reliably staff the position, or turnover is eating your quality
• You want to prove out automation before committing to a fully engineered line
It is the wrong trade when cycle time is the binding constraint, payloads are heavy, or the part runs unchanged for years. In those cases we will quote you an industrial robot, because that is what will actually pay back.
## Applications we build
### Collaborative welding
Welding is not traditionally thought of as collaborative work, but the programming advantage is decisive for high-mix shops. A cobot welder can be taught a new part in minutes instead of hours, which is what makes short runs economical. For shops that cannot hire welders — which, in Michigan, is most of them — this is often the entry point into automation.
### Machine tending
Loading and unloading CNC machines, stamping presses, injection molders, and inspection stations. This is the highest-return cobot application we deploy, because the machine is already paid for and running below capacity for want of someone to feed it.
### Palletizing
End-of-line stacking, with the added benefit that a mobile palletizing cell can serve several lines rather than being dedicated to one. Recent additions to our cobot line make this far more flexible than it was even two years ago.
### Small assembly
Repetitive, tedious assembly where human consistency degrades over a shift. Cobots do not get bored at hour six, which is usually where the quality escapes start.
### Light machining and finishing
Deburring, polishing, sanding, and grinding are still largely done by hand. Force-controlled robotic finishing produces a more consistent surface and removes a genuinely unpleasant job from your floor.
## Vision changes what a cobot can do
Adding a vision system is usually the difference between a cobot that needs perfectly presented parts and one that can find a part wherever it lands. Vision simplifies fixturing, tolerates variation, and often cuts the programming effort more than it adds. On most of the cells we build, it pays for itself in reduced tooling alone.
## What integration actually involves
A robot arm is not a solution. The work is in the end effector, the fixturing, the part presentation, the safety assessment, the integration with the machine it serves, and the training. That is what we do.

• Risk assessment — collaborative operation still requires a formal safety assessment; we perform it
• Cell design and build — gripper, tooling, fixtures, guarding where needed, controls integration
• Installation and commissioning at your facility
• Operator training, so the cell belongs to your team rather than to us
• Ongoing support as an authorized DOOSAN and FANUC integrator
